The Takeaway: The best laid plans of the Horsemen went completely awry tonight, thanks in part to injury, and Lou Thesz cashed in the Money in 'da Bag to get a title shot for King's Guard.
The Road Warriors (C) vs. The Blackjacks (#2)
Animal defeated Blackjack Mulligan via pinfall (DOOMSDAY DEVICE) at 4:18. *1/4
The Chicago Winners scored two points.
The Blackjacks had an edge early, but distraction from Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo got Animal out of a BLACKJACK CLAW and flipped the momentum. From there, the Road Warriors dominated, beating Mulligan with a second DOOMSDAY DEVICE after he shocked the crowd by kicking out of the first one.
The Armstrongs (C) vs. The Fantastics (#1)
Bob Armstrong defeated Bobby Rogers via pinfall (GEORGIA JAWJACKER) at 2:54. 1/2*
The Macho Machines scored one point.
It was a quick defense for the champs, as Bob came in on a hot tag from Brad, nailed the GEORGIA JAWJACKER, and got a quick pin.
Post-Match: As the Armstrongs celebrated, King's Guard walked down to the ring, with Thesz carrying the Money in 'da Bag. They stepped into the ring and handed the bag to the referee, cashing in their title shot for the Armstrongs' US title.
The Armstrongs (C) vs. King's Guard (#6)
The Crusher defeated Bob Armstrong via pinfall (CRUSHER BOLO) at 19:55. ***1/4
King's Guard won the TCW US Tag Team Championship.
The Order of the British Empire scored two points.
The Armstrongs showed a ton of heart in this unscheduled match, but the strength of their opponents just ground them down en route to a definitive title change. The shocking highlight for the crowd was the appearance of Randall Tame and Cubic Zirconia at the top of the match with the cannon from the Armstrong's talent show bit. When Thesz hit Brad with the GRECO-ROMAN BACKDROP, they fired the cannon, shooting Ladykind ten feet down the ramp and breaking the pin from the shock. They were all quickly scurried to the back, and the match continued to grind towards its end.
Backstage: As Nick Bockwinkel relaxed backstage with a fine glass of whiskey, Billie Piper sat down next to him, all smiles, charm, and conversation. Bockwinkel found some enjoyment in his new company, and was distracted enough to not notice Piper slipping something into his drink ...
Randy Savage and Bruiser Costa vs. Lou Thesz and Mike DiBiase
Randy Savage defeated Lou Thesz via pinfall (FLYING ELBOW DROP) at 4:06. *
With Thesz tired from the previous match, Savage and Costa had a decided advantage against even Thesz's legendary cardio. With that edge, Savage easily overwhelmed Thesz with his speed to set him up for his finisher and the win.
Pre-Match: Before the bell rang, Masked Superstar yanked Johnny Saint off of the apron and rammed him head-first into the ring. He then tossed Saint back in and called for the bell to start the match.
Masked Superstar and Johnny Saint vs. Harley Race and Luke Williams
Harley Race defeated Johnny Saint via pinfall (VERTICAL SUPLEX) at 1:58. DUD
With the damage done by Masked Superstar to his own partner before the match, the outcome was simply academic.
DDP and Brutus Beefacke vs. Robert Gibson and Bobby Eaton
Bobby Eaton defeated Diamond Dallas Page via pinfall (ALABAMA JAM) at 7:11. 3/4*
The two tag specialists, Eaton and Gibson, meshed incredibly well as a team. They had no problem controlling the tempo and positioning of the match and securing the victory.
Mad Dog Vachon and Stan Hansen vs. The Destroyer and Tom Prichard
Mad Dog Vachon defeated The Destroyer via pinfall (Mad Dog Pounce) at 13:14. ***
Defying all expectations, Vachon and Hansen cooperated, working like an experienced team. When the dust had cleared, they had dominated Prichard and the former champ to secure their spots in the battle royal.
Post-Match: As soon as the bell rang, Hansen ran into the ring and attacked Vachon, and the two rolled out of the ring. Fists flew as security ran down to the ring, surrounding the duo as they brawled up the ramp to the backstage area.
Chris Candido and Steve Regal vs. Ted DiBiase and The Crusher
The Crusher defeated Chris Candido via submission (CRUSHER NELSON) at 10:41. ***
It was a good, back and forth match that saw both teams get in plenty of offense. After a wild brawl outside left Candido woozy, DiBiase tagged in his partner who locked in his finisher to get the submission victory.
"The Raging Bull of the Pampas" Pampero Firpo (C) vs. Curt Hennig (NR)
Pampero Firpo defeated Curt Hennig via submission (EL GARFIO) at 7:44.
Pampero Firpo defeated Curt Hennig via submission (EL GARFIO) at 16:43. ***
The Order of the British Empire won one point.
The presence of Jim Cornette at ringside was quickly countered by Luke Williams, who marched down to ringside to second Firpo. The match was mostly controlled by the champ, who locked in his finisher and got a surprisingly quick submission from Hennig. Cornette immediately got on the mic and yelled out, "Horseman Rules means it's two out of three falls! Keep the match going!" As Firpo glared at him, Hennig hit a big dropkick to start the second fall. Hennig controlled much of the action after the ambush, eventually locking in the HENNIG PLEX. As he did, though, Luke attacked Cornette on the outside, distracting the ref and Hennig both. Firpo took advantage to lock in EL GARFIO again, and with Cornette tied up outside, Hennig had no choice but to tap again.
Post-Match: As Firpo celebrated, Hennig clutched his neck and rolled gingerly out of the ring. Cornette assisted him to the back as he continued to grab at his neck. EL GARFIO had clearly done its damage.
Buddy Rogers (C) vs. Nick Bockwinkel (NR)
Buddy Rogers defeated Nick Bockwinkel via submission (FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE) with special referee Jeff Jarrett at 7:54.
Buddy Rogers defeated Nick Bockwinkel via submission (FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE) in a steel cage match at 8:52. ***1/2
Natural Selection scored two points.
The first fall saw Rogers with a decided advantage, seeing him lock in the FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE four separate times. The first three times, Jarrett claimed that Bockwinkel got under the ropes and called for a break, even though that claim was dubious. With the fourth time, though, it was in the middle of the ring, and Jarret was sweating bullets as Bockwinkel finally yelled, "Ring the bell, you imbicile!" Jarrett called for the bell, giving Rogers the first fall.
After the cage came down, Rogers dominated the second fall, focusing on Bock's knee and systematically wearing him down. With no rope breaks in play this time, Rogers locked in his FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE and used the ropes for leverage, forcing a submission out of Bockwinkel out of self-preservation.
Post-Match: Bad injury luck struck the Horsemen again, as Bockwinkel was unable to walk under his own power after the match. Medical staff came down to help him, but were shooed away by the Blackjacks, who each took an arm and helped Bock hop to the back.

Harley Race eliminated (2) Randy Savage at 11:34.
Stan Hansen eliminated (2)Harley Race at 11:51.
Stan Hansen won the Bryan Danielson Living Memorial Battlle Royal.
The Million Dollar Team scored three points.
The Battle Royal was dominated by the favorites, coming down to Vachon, Savage, Hansen, and Race. Savage eliminated Vachon, leaving him alone with the two members of the Million Dollar team. They double teamed and eliminated the Macho Man, then Race tried to hit Hansen with a clothesline. Hansen ducked, though, and then followed up with a big LARIAT to eliminate Hansen and win the Battle Royal.
Pre-Match: When the Blackjacks came out, Barry Windham was dressed completely in his garb from his time as The Stalker. As Andre came down the aisle, Windham hid at ringside, "stalking" his prey and hiding as best he could. When Andre got into the ring, Windham pulled out a blowgun and shot a dart into him. The big man grabbed his neck and pulled it out, but quickly slumped over to the ground. Windham rolled into the ring as Mulligan strongarmed the timekeeper into ringing the bell.
Andre the Giant vs. The Blackjacks
Barry Windham defeated Andre the Giant via pinfall (elephant tranquilizer) at :03. DUD
The Mavericks of Wrestling did not score six points, as you'll see shortly.
With Andre unconscious from the dart, the ref reluctantly counted the three to end the match.
Post-Match: Leva came screaming down to the ring, followed closely by medical staff. As they checked on Andre, Leva grabbed the mic and called out, "No! No points! The Blackjacks lost!" Cornette got into the ring and started raising hell, insisting that the win was valid because the bell hadn't been rung when the dart attack happened, but Leva was having none of it. She finally lost her temper and hauled off on Cornette, knocking him out with a right hook as the crowd roared. Suddenly, the arena went dark, and big screen came on.
"Miss Bates," a gravely voice called out, "I believe I still have something you want." The shadowy figure of the kidnapper came into the foreground as a light came on in the back, illuminating a bound Harley Cameron on a chair behind him. "If you want your lovely Miss Cameron back, you'll give me what I want at the next show you book."
After a dramatic pause, he completed his thought. "I want the Dragon." The kidnapper cackled as the broadcast cut to black.
