If you're not familiar with Fudge, it's a great little RPG system where the primary mechanic is rolling four six-sided dice for everything. Ones and twos are bad, fives and sixes are good, and you tally those results to get an outcome between -4 and +4, with zero basically being what was expected.
As a GM, I like to use it in basically any system as a quick approximation of a luck roll. If someone asks me if there's enough rope to reach the bottom of the pit I just made up, 4dF can give me the answer if I'm wanting a neutral arbiter. When I'm doing things on the fly, it's incredibly helpful, regardless of what we're playing.
