The Takeaway: Randy Savage, RVD, and Pampero Firpo all looked good en route to Macho Boogie's win of the Lethal Lottery. No tag title changed hands, but both singles titles did along with a couple of big injuries on the card, as well.
Sam Houston vs. Ron Hutchison
Sam Houston defeated Ron Hutchison via countout (DDT) at 5:35. **1/4
Hutchison was on the offensive early, trapping Houston in his finisher but unsuccessful in getting the win. When the action spilled to the outside, Houston caught Ron as he came out with a quick DDT on the mat and scurried back into the ring for the countout win.
Backstage: Chaos reigned backstage as we saw Ivan Koloff whip the World Champion, Bruiser Brody, into a wall, knocking him to the floor. Before security could intervene, Koloff's partner, King Kong Bundy, ran from the side and hit Brody with a devastating splash, doing massive damage. As security pulled them away, Bundy shouted, "That belt's not yours, you hear me? It belongs to Mr. DiBiase! That's his title!"
The Iron Sheik and "The Raging Bull of the Pampas" Pampero Firpo vs. "Ball Buster" Dave Taylor and "The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam
The Iron Sheik defeated Rob Van Dam via disqualification (Van Daminator) at 6:10. *
It was a good back and forth match, with Chelsea Green making her presence felt on the outside on behalf of RVD's team. Ultimately, though, it was a rare DQ that ended the match, when RVD brought a chair into the ring and blatantly hit the Van Daminator, leveling The Iron Sheik and leaving referee Aubrey Edwards no choice but to call for the DQ.
"Dr. Death" Steve Williams vs. James Snuka
Jimmy Snuka defeated Steve Williams via disqualification (repeated chairshots) at 6:17. *1/2
What started with potential to be a classic match was ended quickly when the action spilled out into a prolonged brawl outside the ring. Williams grabbed a chair and nailed Snuka with a wicked chairshot, but his eyes just got wild in response. The second chairshot was even more forceful, wrapping the chair around Snuka's head and dropping him as the ref called for the bell.
Pre-Match: As Macho Man came down to the ring, he was accompanied by The Destroyer. The two shared an exuberant double high five at the top of the ramp, and as Macho entered the ring, The Destroyer took a seat next to the timekeeper, clearly on guard against shenanigans after what happened with RVD in the first match of the Lethal Lottery.
"Ball Buster" Dave Taylor and "The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam vs. "The Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant and "Macho Man" Randy Savage
Rob Van Dam defeated Jimmy Valiant via pinfall (FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH) at 5:52. *
The uncoordination of the the teams showed, as RVD and Taylor were able to isolate Valiant, working him over without his brother's usual saves to help him. The match ended quickly after a series of moonsaults from RVD and then his big finisher.
The Taylors (Scott, Chaz, and Tugboat) vs. The Machines and Angelo Poffo
Brutus Beefcake defeated Chaz Taylor via ref stoppage (SLEEPER) at 6:55. **
All three teams looked good in the ring, but the star power of the team from the Macho Machines was too much for the Taylors to overcome in the end, with Chaz succumbing to a long stay in Beefcake's patented SLEEPER.
The Iron Sheik and "The Raging Bull of the Pampas" Pampero Firpo vs. "The Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant and "Macho Man" Randy Savage
Randy Savage defeated The Iron Sheik via pinfall (FLYING ELBOW DROP) at 2:23. *1/2
Macho Machines scored one point. The Mavericks of Wrestling scored one point.
Firpo started off explosively against the Macho Man, even getting him locked into EL GARFIO in the first minute, but didn't get the pin. He tagged out to The Iron Sheik, who inexplicably went up to the top rope and tried to hit Savage with an imitation of his elbow drop, which missed and did massive damage to his arm. Savage went up to the top for the real deal to secure the victory and win the Lethal Lottery for his team by the time rules.
POST MATCH: The Iron Sheik's arm was clearly broken as medical staff attended to him and helped him to the back. Once the ring was clear, Jeff Jarrett came to the ring with a microphone and two women in golden bikinis and admired the Sheik's toughness before turning to the business at hand. As the ladies opened the golden briefcases they carried, both revealed cards that read "MATCH," meaning Macho Boogie was set to take on the Rock and Roll Express. Ricky and Robert's music hit and the two bemulletted champions streaked down the ramp.
The Rock and Roll Express (C) vs. "Macho Man" Randy Savage and "The Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant
Ricky Morton defeated Jimmy Valiant via pinfall (DOUBLE DROPKICK) at 1:05. 3/4*
Order of the British Empire scored two points.
The Express lived up to their reputation as tag specialists, cutting off the ring and making three tags in just over a minute en route to putting away Macho Boogie quickly with a DOUBLE DROPKICK to Valiant.
Andre the Giant vs. "The West Texas Redneck" Curt Hennig
Andre the Giant defeated Curt Hennig via pinfall (BIG SPLASH) at 6:10. *1/2
The Mavericks of Wrestling scored three points.
Curt did his best to dance around Andre, but every time he tried to press an advantage and got within arm's reach of Andre, the big man was able to turn it around. The match's end came when Andre responded to a big chop from Hennig by dropping him with a boot to the face and then hitting the BIG SPLASH.
Post-Match: Commissioner Dragon, once again watching from ringside, clicked his stopwatch in time with the bell and then made note of the time on his clipboard. He stood up, put the clipboard under his arm, and gave Hennig a round of applause before heading backstage with Andre.
Backstage: The camera cut to a brawl backstage between Buddy Rogers and Lou Thesz, the former having locked Thesz into an Indian Deathlock. "Security, help!" Lord Ewan yelled from nearby, and he was answered by Andre the Giant himself, coming back from his match, who chased Rogers away before damage could be done to Thesz.
Vanity vs. Diamond Dallas Page and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
Gorgeous George defeated Jim Duggan via submission (SPINNING TOE HOLD) at 7:18. **1/4
It was a solid, even match for both teams, with Vanity showing great cohesion and Duggan and Page putting on great individual performances. The teamwork won in the end, though, with Duggan getting locked into a submission hold as Street cut off Page from the save.
Pre-Match: As Race waited in the ring, Windham came down the ramp flanked by Jeff Jarrett and Tully Blanchard - now free of his cast - each man flashing four fingers in the air. Race shook his head at the display, but when Windham entered the ring, Race surprised everyone by offering a handshake. Windham accepted and it came out as a clean show of respect, both men breaking as the bell rang.
Barry Windham (C) vs. "The King" Harley Race (#7)
Harley Race defeated Barry Windham via pinfall (back suplex) at 14:08. ****
Harley Race won the US Heavyweight Championship
The Million Dollar Team scored two points
About five minutes into the match, Race hit Windham with a PILEDRIVER on the outside and seemed content to prove a point with the countout win, but Jarrett and Tully helped Windham up and into the ring to continue the match. The duo continued to tear the house down, each man kicking out of his opponent's finisher multiple times. Race was able to duck a LARIAT and hit a big shoulder tackle on the rebound, then nailed a picture-perfect back suplex with a little bridge to win the match and the US title.
The Road Warriors (C) vs. The Midnight Express (#4)
Hawk defeated Bobby Eaton via pinfall (top-rope piledriver) at 4:10. *
Wasteland scored two points
The Midnight Express gave the Road Warriors their toughest match yet, controlling most of the action from the opening bell. Bobby Eaton had Hawk down and went up to the top for a leg drop, but Hawk popped up and met him up top. The Road Warrior won the punch exchange on the turnbuckle, then hit piledriver from the top and went for the cover. Eaton was knocked out, but might have got his shoulder up reflexively before three from one of the camera angles, but the referee counted three anyway.
Post-Match: The Road Warriors left immediately, but Heenan was apoplectic at ringside. He rolled into the ring, gesticulating wildly and screaming at the referee as the ref tried to tend to Bobby, who was clearly hurt. As medics came into the ring, Paul Heyman ran down and slid in to confront Heenan, the two managers screaming in one another's faces as Eaton was put in a neck brace. The crowd then erupted as a handsome Samoan in a "PAUL HEYMAN GUY" t-shirt hopped the rail and slid in the ring. Heenan turned around just in time to eat a Superman Punch, then Heyman cackled before leaving the ring with Reigns shortly before they got Eaton onto a stretcher and to the back.
Bruiser Brody (C) vs. "The God of Wrestling" Lou Thesz (#1)
Lou Thesz defeated Bruiser Brody via pinfall (GRECO-ROMAN BACKDROP) at 10:59. **1/4
Lou Thesz won the TCW World Heavyweight Championship.
Order of the British Empire scored four points.
Brody controlled much of the action with his power to start the match, but Thesz was able to use his grappling ability a couple of times to sneak in a flash pin attempt and lock in a deep toe hold. The wildman couldn't be kept down, though, and continued his onslaught. Thesz ducked a big dropkick from Brody late in the match and went straight to an airplane spin for a two count. As soon as Brody kicked out, Thesz transitioned into a double wristlock, and as Brody struggled to get free, Thesz slipped behind and hit his signature GRECO-ROMAN BACKDROP to claim the World Heavyweight Championship.
